YOUR WEEK WITH VALDEZ HELI-SKI GUIDES :
With more than 10,000 square miles of glaciated mountains in its backyard, VHSG offers everything from scenic glacier runs and powder bowls to steep couloirs, exposed ramps, and big mountain faces. The cold maritime snow that falls in our region is world renowned, enabling us to ski some of the steepest terrains in the world with a confidence and sense of security not possible anywhere else. Runs average between 3,000 and 5,000 vertical feet with our longest run sitting at 6,200; other skis runs are two and a half miles top to bottom.
Thompson Pass averages more than 500 inches of snow a year. Pacific storms building over the Gulf of Alaska mix with cold Arctic air, reliably delivering some of the deepest powder in North America. Though the days are shorter and colder, February and March see the deepest powder. Temperatures can drop below zero during these months but the average is typically 10-20F. Then, in the long days of April and May, the powder is accompanied by corn snow and temperatures average 15-30F.
Alaska’s Chugach Mountains have been the epicenter of big mountain skiing since 1989. This terrain, pioneered by VHSG for the last 30+ years, remains the proving ground for the world’s elite skiers and riders. Ski and ride alongside the guides of Tsaina Lodge and VHSG and you too can access the best terrain in the world before returning to one of the nicest lodges in AK.
