IVY x Antarctica | Extreme Polar Odyssey

February 12th - 20th, 2018

We’ve taken you to the Cradle of Civilization in Kenya and to the Land of Ice and Fire in Iceland. We’ve explored Cuba, hiked Yosemite, drunk beer in Munich, and skied the slopes in Aspen- and now, IVY’s taking it to a whole new level.

Designed for a small group of the most intrepid IVY members, this bucket-list IVY x Antarctica | Extreme Polar Odyssey will transport us to the remotest reaches of our globe. This bold expedition to one of the most exotic destinations on the planet is our most exclusive and luxurious adventure yet. Join us as we fly over the mythical waters of the Drake Passage in the comfort of a chartered plane to visit the White Continent, which has bewitched and befuddled scientists, explorers, and sightseers alike for two centuries.

To secure your spot on this adventure, please be sure to indicate your interest with a $949 deposit. The cost for this exclusive getaway is $949 deposit + $13,999 final payment which will be taken on December 13, 2017. Members are responsible for booking their roundtrip transportation to PUQ Airport (our launching point in Chile!). Please visit the site for a full list of inclusions and itinerary. If you'd like to bring a guest, please email us at antartica@ivy.com. Please note that all payments for this trip are non-refundable and non-transferable once taken.

Fly South for the Polar Summer...

  • On Monday evening, travel overnight to our meeting point in Punta Arenas, Chile, the gateway to Patagonia.

  • Should you want to extend your trip in the region, we highly recommend a weekend excursion to the iconic Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia. An optional Patagonia extension will be offered to confirmed members on the program.

Tuesday, February 13

On the Edge of Civilization

  • We’ll see you at the airport and transfer you to our evening’s accommodations, the avant-garde Hotel Cabo de Hornos, with stunning views of the Strait of Magellan.
  • In the afternoon, we’ll learn about the voyage ahead — after all, this isn’t just another walk in the park.
  • That evening, we’re going to enjoy a delicious welcome dinner of fresh seafood caught from the Humboldt current paired with local Chilean wines as we talk with our fellow adventurers about the days ahead.
  • Get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow: the seventh continent.

Wednesday, February 14

Not Your Typical Valentine’s Day

  • Eat up! We’re going to Antarctica!
  • We’ll hop aboard a two-hour private flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island, located in the South Shetland Islands. As you exit the aircraft, you’ll notice the invigorating Antarctic air fills your lungs for the first time.
  • We’ll then explore the area surrounding Chile’s Frei Station and Russia’s Bellingshausen station, host to a maximum population of 150 in the summertime.
  • After exploring, we’ll board the Ocean Nova, our modern and comfortable expedition vessel, with an ice-strengthened hull and fully refurbished interior that is ideally suited for expedition travel in Antarctica.
  • Settle into your polar home — replete with glass-enclosed observation lounge, full bar, library, gym and infirmary — and freshen up for our first meal aboard. Incredible international cuisine with premium wine pairings is on the menu in the Ocean Nova’s spacious dining room.
  • All cabins are exterior facing. Never miss a single view!

February 15 - 18

The Final Frontier

  • Our flexible four-day expedition will allow us to take advantage of magical wildlife encounters and the unexpected, ever-changing opportunities provided by nature  — with time for hot cocoa breaks amidst the rugged terrain, of course.

  • Each day we’ll…

    • Wake up in the most remote region of the world

    • Hop aboard our fleet of small Zodiac boats to explore the nooks and crannies of the craggy landscape together with expert polar guides

    • Attend a daily cocktail reception with an engaging program of presentations by our expert crew as we behold spectacular views with fellow IVY travelers

  • Explore: While the exact itinerary will be determined on the ground due to climate conditions, we will explore several remote locations that offer the best possible overview of the diverse Antarctic environment. These may include such magnificent sites as:

    • Paulet Island, with its large Adelie Penguin colony

    • The Bird Area of Hope Bay

    • The storied British scientific base at Port Lockroy

    • Gentoo Penguins and granite backdrops of Petermann Island

    • Blue icebergs and towering snowcaps of Lemaire Channel

    • Views of icy peaks in Paradise Bay and the active volcano at Deception Island

  • Adventure: We’ll cruise between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, sailing along ice-filled fjords and among passageways of spectacular icebergs, some glacial blue. Keep your eyes peeled for ice mirages and solar halos.

  • Encounter: We may walk along ice sheets with fledgling penguin chicks, see spyhopping Orcas by Zodiac boat, watch majestic Humpback whales perform with their enormous flippers, see hungry and mischievous seals, including the massive Elephant Seal, and hike to gorgeous overlooks with graceful birds winging overhead, including the Blue-Eyed Shag, Wandering Albatross and Polar Skua.

February 19 - 20

Back to Reality

  • It won’t be easy, but we’ll have to bid farewell to Antarctica and return to King George Island.
  • We’ll return to the Hotel Cabo de Hornos, enjoying a farewell dinner and reminiscing over unbelievable pictures from our voyage.
  • After breakfast the following morning, we’ll head to the airport for the journey home. There’s little doubt you’ll be exhausted, but we’re sure you’ll feel like it was worth it.
